About HOPE


HOPE Clinic is a private, non-profit organization in Pamlico County, NC that provides free medical and dental care to low-income, uninsured adults. We provide basic health care, prescription medications, laboratory tests, medical supplies, health education, and referrals to specialists at no charge.

Our Patients

  • Our more than 750 patients meet strict income eligibility requirements, lack health insurance, and are not eligible for Medicaid or Medicare, Veterans Benefits, Workman's Compensation.
  • Over 75% suffer from chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension.
  • They reflect the ethnic diversity of our county: 46% white, 26% black, 25% Hispanic.

Our Impact

  • In 2005, HOPE won a state-wide evaluation award from the Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC Foundation. Our ongoing assessment activities demonstrate
  • improved patient health and
  • financial savings for our community; New patients report greater non-emergency use of expensive hospital emergency services than do established patients.

Our Resources

We are proud of our low administrative costs and broad community support:

  • Four part-time staff, including an Executive Director, are the only paid employees.

  • More than 150 volunteers contribute over 8,200 hours of labor each year.

  • The Pamlico County Health Department provides office and clinic space.

  • Many individuals, churches, businesses, and foundations provide direct financial support.

  • Pharmaceutical companies and local physicians’ samples provide patient medications valued at over $800,000 annually.
